Per Gernhard was born in Poznan in 1941. He studied at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Berlin under Prof. Dörries in 1967.
Since 1980 he lives in the Wendland.
Gernhardt has developed a personal subtle style of realism, which always keeps open the possibilities of viewing the stated environment. He distinguishes himself as a painter of light and air, which puts a filter of color over the selected sections, creating a poetic atmosphere.
